Often times our brain and heart are at odds. The heart desires much without concern for reality, and the brain prevents us from chasing all of our wants by presenting us with fears and anxieties — but keeps us safe with logic and the sun of our experiences. Humans are wired to remember bad things. It helped our ancestors survive by reminding them to not eat some poisonous berries or to avoid venomous or predatory animals. This inherited trait, though, is double-edged in that it makes it easy to remember sad or dark memories and harder to remember all the good ones. With mental effort, though, we have evolved to be able to override our instinct to reflect repeatedly on trauma and create and keep memories of love in the fronts of our minds. Keep trying… don’t give up when those hurtful memories get you down. Create more each day of kindness and joy.

Success is rarely easy, however easy successful people make it look.

One of the hardest things we have to do in life is learn to let go of that which is out of our control. At first, feeling like you have no control is incredibly dis-empowering. However, the realization that you alone get to control your reaction to and learn from the things in your life that are beyond your reach is undeniably freeing.

What’s with the new definition for snowflake as weakness? All humans are like snowflakes, and we should absolutely take pride in that. Every snowflake shows off a different, gorgeous pattern, yet they are all made of the same stuff. Some are more similar than others, sharing pieces of patterns, but all are unique, beautiful and have a delightful sparkle.

When we’re told to be kind to others, we often think this means we should be nice to other people. While this is obviously important, kindness must extend beyond humans in order for us to live harmoniously on this planet. Be kind to animals, trees, and insects. After all, we are all family — made of the same star stuff that is as old as the beginning of time.
